A presentation given this month (see slide presentation attachment below) helped connect the dots as to how the IRS and the government has laid the groundwork for your 501c3 church to be involved in the next pandemic or major crisis; by helping to lead you to your local FEMA camp for assistance. That sounds helpful doesn't it? Well think again.
According to the IRS churches are already tax exempt and not required to apply for exempt status. Did you know that? So now the government tells the 501c3 churches what they can and cannot do and say. For example, read this sample letter of a church asking permission from our government to advocate for a cause the church believes in because of it's 501c3 status requirement. And then read the Advisory Opinion response given. Does that seem like separation of church and state to you?
As for FEMA, they have developed the Department of Homeland Security Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. You will find that they have reference sheets for several faith communities as tips for FEMA personal to use as engagement guidelines with your church community.
Our churches teach us the 10 Biblical Commandments as rules to live by and how to treat our fellow man, right? Well there might be a conflict between what the church teaches and what the law of the land, enacted by Congress in 1991, states. These are referred to as the Noahide Laws.
Well, there is a conflict of interests here. One is a set of commandments given by God and one is a set of Public Laws set by man and legislative statute. Sounds like you need to show your church why they should get out from under the 501c3 status. As in:
